Rotor in Short Circuit

Basically, the induction motor with squirrel cage rotor is composed of two parts, being they the stator and the rotor. The stator is the magnetic circuit of the electric motor, generally of grooves, where the coils are housed which, with the proper connection, produce the rotating magnetic field. The rotor is the winding consisting of copper or aluminum bars, short-circuited at their ends. When the motor is energized, it acquires the function of a transformer with the secondary one in short circuit, therefore it requires of the electrical network a much greater chain, being able to reach about 8 times the value of the same one. The disadvantages are caused by the high starting currents, as they require the dimensioning of cables with much larger diameters, in addition, power factor drops can occur, causing greater energy expenditure and costs.
